Il définit des directives opérationnelles et établit des dimensions communes ainsi que des caractéristiques de charge et de pression. Le «Standards Manual» est publié tous les ans en anglais (avec des commentaires en allemand, français et anglais). L'ouvrage tient compte des développements futurs et est considéré tout simplement comme LE manuel de référence de la branche.
